Napster, CD Collecting and The Meaning of Life

VoodooChile

Just finished a really good essay over at Ironminds.com. The author makes so many good points about the three things mentioned in the title of this post that I felt compelled to post a link, and invite you guys to read it.
Here's an excerpt to whet your appetite:
"As Courtney Love said so eloquently for once in her life, “Real people pay money for music because it means something to them.”
I, for one, am looking for a long-term relationship with my music. And just as the Napster debate tackled artists’ ownership rights, I’d like to tackle listeners’ ownership. Sadly enough, I’ve always taken tremendous pride in owning hundreds of CDs, even when I couldn’t take ownership of my own heart."
Great Saturday reading folks...check it out.

when file transfer can be paid for in micropayments, people will begin to pay the "fair" price for a file...
if it's more than the sound file that is wanted, i think many will continue to purchase in the "same old way" (CD's, albeit cheaper CD's as they go the way of the floppy with their small storage capacity).
